Hi All,
Like many of you, I’m a parent struggling to keep my kids off devices, texting, and social media. I’m convinced it’s harming them. When they’re on their screens, they’re using only one sense in a passive way—it’s an isolating experience, even when other kids are around.
But when I see my kids at softball, gymnastics, or theatre, I witness a completely different energy. They’re animated, engaged, and part of a community. They’re moving, creating, and connecting—it looks and feels natural and healthy. Even when they chat too much and get into trouble with the teacher, it’s still a real, human connection.
They come home eager to share everything that happened. They’re kinder. They can focus longer on different tasks.
Theatre, in particular, offers so much to young people—community, self-expression, accountability, sensory strengthening, and, of course, fun. It’s the perfect antidote to our digital obsession.
And before you ask—no, my daughter, you’re still not getting a phone!
