Description

We are very excited to begin our new improvisation program on the Westside. This acting technique class, designed for students ages 9 yrs to 14, will be taught by Gabriel Oliva. Gabriel has a Bachelors Degree in Acting from USC and trained for 5 years at the renowned Groundlings school of comedy.

The class would focus on acting fundamentals through improv. The abilities children would learn/strengthen are:

-flexibility
-thinking on your feet
-teamwork
-commitment to your character
-confidence
-being present in the moment
Not only that, but it’s TONS of fun and kind of addictive. Students don’t need to think they have to be “funny” to participate, it’s all about commitment to the acting in a fun and supportive environment. The first half of the curriculum will begin with basic improv and character exercises and then depending on how quickly the students learn, we will move to more complex scene work.

This will be a 20 hour class over 10 weeks, with an informal presentation for parents.

Classes will be on Sundays from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, starting February 16th 2020 – May 3rd 2020

Gabriel Oliva

Musical Director

Not the average Spaniard, Gabriel grew up half in San Diego, and half in Seville, Spain. His first words were a "me gusta" followed shortly by "juice". After being confused for a short while (so he's told) he decided to stick to English primarily. He still speaks Spanish regularly to his family across the sea who still have a hard time believing "El Pollo Loco" is a restaurant.

Gabriel attended the USC School of Theatre and quickly transitioned into professional acting and singing after graduating with honors. Growing up with two opera-singing parents, he has an in-depth knowledge of singing technique. Gabriel’s music education continued and expanded through 10 years of performing in the barbershop group The Dapper Dans at Disneyland Resort.  His musical experience aided his transition into the world of voice-over. You can hear Gabriel’s voice in “Star Wars: Rogue One”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and several episodes of Disney Channel’s “Elena of Avalor”.
