Be careful what you wish for as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.  Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.

Who is Eligible: All students ages 6 through 13 are welcome to join our after-school play production class on Thursday’s. The class introduces intermediate theatre vocabulary and technique through interactive theatre games and scene practice, as well as music and dance taught by professionals. The teachers are highly qualified with many aggregate years experience in Children’s Theater. Each child is encouraged to fully participate and is considered an integral part in our final production. Please check the production dates below, as we expect every child to be present for show weekend.

Price includes: Fifty hours instruction, rehearsal and performance time as well. The experience will include a fully realized final production with professionally designed sets, costumes, lights, sound and props. Students will be working with a Professional Director, Choreographer and Musical Director during rehearsals. DVD of the final Production is included in tuition.

Michael McClain

Director

Michael McClain a director and teaching artist in Los Angeles. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Oklahoma City University as well as a double minor in Directing and Theatre Design and Production. Michael discovered his passion for education back in Oklahoma, where he started working as an arts educator with Oklahoma Children’s Theatre. Since then, Michael has worked with such companies as Seattle Children’s Theatre, Youth Theatre Northwest, Studio East, Village Theatre, and Seattle Theatre Group. He currently works with Geffen Playhouse, Theatre31, Pasadena Playhouse, and is the resident teaching artist at A Noise Within. As well, he works with Center Theatre Group in the national Disney Musicals in Schools Program. Michael has help developed theatre programs dedicated to reading critical thinking in young actors with Foundy10 and Neighborhood Bridges.
